We use ProofPoint across our entire organization. This prevents a lot of malicious, spam, and junk emails from reaching our business units.
  • Customization of email firewall rules allows for detailed prevention of specific attacks.
  • Email Fraud Defense portal gives very detailed authentication information and errors to our team as we work toward full DMARC compliance.
  • The ability to insert email warning tags at the ProofPoint level prevents additional O365 mail flow rules.
  • The administrative portal is a little complex. Would like to see a more "user friendly" portal to find everything we need.
  • When creating email firewall rules, we have to manually move the rule up using the arrows into the position we want it. Would like to specify the position in the rule stack during creation.
  • When finding emails in smart search, it would be ideal to take action on the emails in the same search area rather than clicking on the email, redirecting to the quarantined folder, then having the option to take action.
ProofPoint Email Protection is very well suited for companies that consider email functionality and communication to be critical business functions. It allows for the prevention of email-based attacks and security forward rule sets that are not available in O365 or Exchange alone.

It is being used by Email and Security teams to protect both our on premise and cloud-based email. We use email protection, TAP, and TRAP. We monitor and encrypt outgoing sensitive data through DLP capabilities and detect and block incoming phishing and malware.
  • Ability to create logical and detailed DLP rules.
  • Ability to encrypt or block based on rules.
  • Integration with Active Directory works as expected.
  • Manual Report exports are very limited in row size.
  • There is no search feature for AD groups and users within DLP rule creation.
  • Each email can only be part of one folder, so it can only trigger one monitoring rule.
  • Because of #3, we have to order rule priority. This has to be done in a very manual way with upward and downward arrows. They cannot be ordered by typing in numbers. The page refreshes and goes to the top with every arrow click, and it's pretty slow to update each time.
  • The User Interface is pretty lacking visually.
  • We have to create a rule in both Email Protection and Information Protection to use Active Directory groups in the rule.
It works well for actual functionality of the DLP detection. It does has good dictionaries and identifiers built in. But most of the things involved in the UI are pretty cumbersome and not very visually appealing. There are many extra steps needed to get some things working as desired, and you have to prioritize every monitoring rule.

Proofpoint Email Protection filters all inbound emails for our entire corporation. It filters our 98% of inbound emails due to spam, virus, or other malicious content, and bulk mailings. It helps protect our employees from unwanted and nefarious emails.

If you need a robust, dynamic, flexible way to verify, filter, encrypt, and protect from data loss, Proofpoint Email Protection is a great product, and their sales, professional services for setup, and support staff are very responsive and provide excellent efficient service. In regards to email protection, they have proven themselves over and over again, and I don't see a scenario where they would not fit.

Proofpoint is being used across our sister companies and we have an admin in each of the countries.
It is our main email security tool and is used by all of our users.

We were in need of a product that could handle higher volumes of email traffic and Proofpoint regularly features as one of the top email security products. It addresses many of the issues we were having with email security, some we didn't even realize we had. It has helped us get a very detailed overview of our email. We have extremely granular control of our inbound and outbound email.
  • Granular control of inbound and outbound email.
  • The rules that can be configured for mail are extremely impressive. An example is that you could configure rules so that if your CEO sends an email that cannot create a TLS link with the receiving MTA, then it will reinject the mail into the queue and send it again with encryption configured.
  • To ensure emails are never sent over plain text. This is but one of the examples.
  • Spam detection is amazing. Proofpoint can detect and stop around 99% of spam and this is shown in the reporting available.
  • End-user services are fantastic and cut down on admin work greatly.
  • End-users can create their own filters, release their own mail and also get end-user digests so they can see all mail that has been delivered to them.
  • The pricing is high and there are many licenses for things I feel should be part of other products.
  • The UI is slightly dated and has a lot of room for improvement.
  • The separate products should have one pane of glass for administration. Currently, if you own several of the products it feels quite disjointed when using them.
In mid-large companies, this is an excellent solution, especially if you require complex filtering. Perhaps due to regulatory reasons or maybe different departments require different rulesets. This is where Proofpoint excels in my opinion, the granularity is mind-blowing.
Companies with very large inbound & outbound mail flow are also where Proofpoint will excel.

In smaller companies that don't require the complex options that Proofpoint offers is where I would recommend a different product. Especially if they do not get large amounts of mail or aren't doing bulk sends.

Proofpoint is being used across our whole organization. All inbound and outbound mail is protected by Proofpoint. We have been using it for about 4 years now and we are very satisfied with the results. It has done a great job of preventing viruses, phishing, impostor emails, etc.
  • Virus protection has been excellent. I cannot remember the last time an email related virus entered our company.
  • The impostor protection within Proofpoint has done a great job of preventing phishing emails.
  • We use Proofpoint for DKIM email signing for outbound mail. Very easy to configure and test.
  • Proofpoint is in the process of refining their admin UX. This will be a big improvement to their current admin UX.
  • They need to work on linking up their various portals so that you do not need to sign into 3 different portals to access your admin consoles.
  • Their working relationship with Microsoft's Office 365 support could be improved. Currently, I have to open tickets with both vendors and play the middle man negotiating fixes.
Proofpoint Email Protection is easily implemented. It does a great job at protecting your email. It has a number of features not found in O365.

Proofpoint Email Protection helps Advent stop both malware and non-malware threats, including imposter emails and Business Email Compromise (BEC) attempts.

This email filtering service has been good, and Proofpoint's uptime has been stellar in the 5 years we've utilized the product.

  • Granting access to Proofpoint's management console is a real pain in the butt.... You have to email support with the individual user names, emails and phone numbers, and then Proofpoint sends them a link for required user training, and access isn't granted until they've completed the training.
Sometimes emails with malicious links get through, and Proofpoint doesn't realize they're malicious until a few hours later. So now you have bad content already sitting in user mailboxes that wasn't previously blocked...

First, we tested Proofpoint with one of the company domains, and then it was implemented across the entire organization. The problems encountered were simple, for example, emails from our customers were cataloged as spam, Proofpoint was making more advanced inspections of the files, the Proofpoint sandbox delayed the arrival of emails, the AdQueue folder was not known and it was thought that they were missing posts.
  • The support - Proofpoint always has trained personnel to handle complicated situations.
  • Management - Proofpoint allows you to manage each of the product components from a centralized console.
  • Intelligence - Proofpoint has different inspection engines including a sandbox, which allows you to detect threats even when other brands do not.
  • It should improve integration of the encryption portal with a second authentication factor, it is only integrated with development.
  • The admin account does not have the access to do low-level troubleshooting, only the support account.
  • In the encryption portal, it only appears in English regardless of the configuration.
Proofpoint Email Protection is more suitable for the detection of gaps and the investigation of events. Proofpoint has a friendly administrative console, and with tools that make an investigation easy. It is less suitable in integration with products of other brands, for example, integration with RSA SecurID.

  • Very strong and good at identifying threats
  • Very good to block the unwanted and new phishing attacks along with Spam and Malware attacks
  • Very strong and cooperative support from Proofpoint
  • Very good experience with Proofpoint support - always very fast and immediate assistance
  • Maybe need to be stronger at capturing the URL and attachment defences before we report attacks.
  • I do agree no product will be able to block all sorts of new malware/phishing attacks, however Proofpoint could be more proactive rather than reactive.
  • Maybe more options for search queries and for easier administration. I am good with the config, consoles etc. But I could see people getting confused with the few options and consoles we have. They may feel like it is a bit complicated.
We have had many spoofing and malware attacks which have been proactively identified by Proofpoint and reported to us as well. And also the monthly newsletters are very useful. I am very happy with Proofpoint's tech support and the way we get support very quickly.

Some components on the Proofpoint Admin Console are user-friendly when it applies to adding blocked or accepted senders. When messages aren't delivered, Proofpoint could do a better job of making sure the reasoning for not delivering the message is clear. For instance, if a status is "@fr.com are being quarantined and discarded," we'd like to know why?

We are using it to align security practices and provide protection from email threat vectors. Proofpoint is used across most of the organization. There are some outliers that are not protected by Proofpoint. It serves to protect many protected resources from access due to malware and virus outbreaks. It addresses users unknowingly hitting links and or attachments within the email system.

  • Sandboxing bad URL and detonating malicious email content.
  • Using the product frees up time for other admin tasks.
  • The web interface.
  • Nothing else, the product is great.
Proofpoint is well suited for reporting, TAP and TRAP. The product works well on-premises as well as in the cloud. To not have a product like Proofpoint in your enterprise is a mistake. It is a fantastic product to protect your data and secure the enterprise. Professional services and training are stand-out characteristics for the company and product.

It is used for email for 85% of Mass State agencies and as a mail relay for thousands of in-house applications. It is our highly dependable spam solution.

So far the Proofpoint Email Protection has worked well for the Comm of Mass. The solution with the TAP Option has really cut down on the amount of spam being released. Proofpoint support is also great and very helpful with any cases we open with them. For the amount of e-mail traffic received/sent this solution works very well.

We currently use Proofpoint Email Protection across our whole organization to filter out spam, bulk, viruses and unwanted email from ever getting to our end users.
  • Proofpoint Dynamic Reputation works really well for us. Approximately 82% of all of our inbound emails are blocked by Proofpoint.
  • We can customize setting to allow it to work for us by allowing or blocking emails based on all types of criteria.
  • We do not allow our end users to report SPAM so admins report SPAM and can also blacklist certain emails.
  • We use Threat Response Auto Pull (TRAP) and a lot of the malicious emails are actually pulled from the user's mailbox before they ever know that they received them.
  • When reporting SPAM the default page settings are always loaded. I would like to be able to customize the startup screen for the folder that it starts in and the length of days to search for.
  • Not all emails show up in the quarantine if they are below a certain size. We have emails that end-users request to be reported as SPAM but we are unable to in the user admin.
  • We have to go between quarantine and Smart Search quite a bit when researching emails. Maybe this information could be combined in one screen.
We have been using Proofpoint Email Protection for several years. I would not want to manage our email/computers without it.

We use Proofpoint Email Protection to relay both inbound and outbound email with email filtering, malware, and spam protection. This also adds visibility to the email traffic for the entire company.

If a company uses a self-hosted email solution i.e. Exchange server on-premises, then making Proofpoint your MX is a perfect example of how one could benefit from using this technology. More self-contained or competing solutions like Microsoft online email solutions with their own email protection would be a stretch to implement. Well, maybe for inbound traffic, and even that would be redundant.

It has been used across the whole organization to protect us against spam and unwanted suspicious emails from the internet.
  • It identified the spam or mails which are malware, then classified them as quarantined or discarded.
  • It helps the end-user to allow/block externals users. Users can add a sender to a safe list or block list.
  • It provides the end-user the option to release emails that are blocked.
  • It would be good to have a stand-alone application instead of a web-based portal for the admin console.
  • It should ask for confirmation from admin/user before save or delete operations like Microsoft applications.
  • Admin should be able to open a ticket via the same portal, like the Office 365 portal.
Really, it is a great product.

We are using one cloud Proofpoint Email Protection instance for the whole group of about 6 companies. We wanted a better product for email protection, as our previous product was very limited in customization and we felt the protection could be better. Though Proofpoint Email Protection is not cheap, it does the job so much better. Though the basic core functionality is just to block malicious/unwanted email, the risk of having such email being delivered warrants investing in a good product.
  • Email filtering: it does the core functionality really well.
  • Reporting: the standard reports are numerous and are a big help for both administrators and management. I have not found a need for a custom report not on the default list yet.
  • Manageability & easy web administration. Use of user digests so people can manage their own spamfolder and report false positives is efficient
  • Customization via custom rules can be as specific as you want.
  • FN/FP reporting is a bit of a hassle.
  • Though training options are good, you should actually follow some training to get the extra benefits of the product to manage it better.
  • The admin GUI is not modern looking. Though a minor issue, it could help in administration.
Using it for email filtering is a very appropriate scenario. You don't want any email threat (virus/phishing) or distraction (spam) to get to the user inbox. Proofpoint Email Protection does this very well (not perfectly, but that would be very hard).

Proofpoint Email Protection is deployed company-wide. It helped address multiple perspectives of secure mail customization, better email protection, and threat blocking/remediation. It also allowed us to bring our archiving into one product. Even though the archiving is a separate piece, it is at least under the same bill and better than what we had prior.
  • Allows for granular customization for the best fit for the company
  • Administration is easy
  • Threat protection is effective
  • Analytics are nice
  • Advanced protection features, such as impostor attacks, work well
  • It does miss some emails that should have been flagged. You look at the body of the email, the headers, etc. and wonder how it could have gotten through, but for the most part, it does a great job
  • The email encryption seems to have some issues. Users will get random errors sometimes - like "Service unavailable" when clicking a link on an encrypted message or "the message has not reached the server or is no longer there", which can be particularly confusing to a recipient because they received an encrypted message and don't understand why this encrypted message that they just received is not in the portal
  • Some of our encryption rules get skipped somehow. It would be nice to be able to determine why
If you want to customize your solution and tailor it to your needs, Proofpoint allows for a LOT of customization, which is really great. We customize the verbiage that goes out in the encrypted emails. It helps to set up a friendlier encrypted message for recipients to trust, which is really important to us.
One of the things that I've found more difficult than say, an on-premise Barracuda Web Filter, is tracking down malicious emails that got through the protection and analyzing how they got through. You can analyze these types of emails in Proofpoint, but it takes some getting used to and takes some deciphering as well.

Proofpoint is being used as an email gateway and it has excellent features which correspond with the global threat landscape. This helps us with better visibility to have strategic decisions and respond better. Most of the campaigns are being stopped by Proofpoint TAP appliance also.
  • Email Protection provided better rule tuning, robust email whitelist/blacklist.
  • Recipient Verification is at the right spot to analyze whether the recipient exists in the Organization or not.
  • SMTP rate control is also one of the great features to have.
  • Email Authentication & email fraud defense could also be leveraged if placed correctly.
  • Proofpoint should roll out full API capability to have automation usage for Security Admins
  • They should redesign their portal
  • I would like to have more training content to be published
It acts as a security barrier for an enterprise to prevent the most prudent attacks. Conducting known phishing campaigns so that we could run user awareness training for the most targeted end users. Correlation with threat Intel gives coverage with all the aspects of real-time attacks around the world.

Proofpoint Email Protection is being used by across our whole organization. It is currently used to handle all of our inbound spam, malware and threat detection. The nature of our business relies on supporting corporations, so Proofpoint Email Protection allows us to securely communicate with our customers while minimizing our risk to bad actors.
  • Proofpoint Email Protection allows granular control of inbound and outbound spam and email firewall rules, providing the opportunity to narrow in on a specific threat while not introducing false positives.
  • Proofpoint Email Protection does an excellent job of managing DKIM and DMARC for our corporation.
  • Proofpoint Email Protection's email digest allows flexibility for our end users to manage their own spam inbox, minimizing the need for IT overhead.
  • Proofpoint Email Protection's admin console could benefit from a UI update. There are several modules and many settings within each module, so its easy to get lost.
  • Proofpoint Email Protection's remote syslog configuration should be made easier to setup and manage.
  • Proofpoint Email Protection's import and export of settings could be more flexible.
The product was fairly easy to install. The ProofPoint Professional Services proved to be very knowledgeable and walked us through the entire deployment. They worked with us to provide a process for migrating users for testing, and then slowly migrating the bulk of the user community while keeping the existing system running. The product has greatly outperformed our previous product with our user community also seeing a better, much more consistent outcome with spam filtering.

My only criticism is the user interface.
